Sportsmanship, PASS It On

By now must of you have probably seen the "Foundation for Better Life's Sportmanship: Pass It On" commerical on TV. You know the one with the Basketball Player tells the coach and the ref that he touched the ball last and it should be the other teams ball instead of theirs. I've heard a few people say that something like that would never happen in today's youth sports. Below one of our Facebook friends prove that it can and does happen, even here locally...

Gregory from Facebook Sent Us This:

There are lots of reasons why youth sports is so much better than any other level of sports and this is one:

With the blue team down 1-0 of a 6-7 year old soccer game the ball went out of bounds and the referee yells "blue ball". Quietly a youngster in a blue shirt says, "I touched it". The ref agains yells, "blue ball".

Next the kid says much louder, "I kicked it last it has to be red ball". The referee kind of smirks , points and says red ball. The other coach says, "but you said blue ball". The ref shrugs and says your player said he touched it. The coach just shook his head as red throws the ball in for play.

I'm going to remain optimistic and hope neither a parent or coach talked to the kid after the game to correct how he handled the situation.

In the mean time I can't help but wonder how much better off we would all be if more of us spent our time doing the right thing even when nobody is looking. Such actions define our character.

Thank You Gregory for sharing this with us.
