Mountain Ridge Little League Begins Their Journey to be the First Nevada Team to Make the Little League World Series

On Wednesday July 23rd, after dealing with rain delays earlier in the week, the Mountain Ridge Little League (MRLL) Major 12 Allstars team beat Paseo Verde Little League 7-3 in the 2014 Nevada Little League State Championship game to take the State Title for a second year in a row.

MRLL went undefeated throughout the entire tournament starting with the District 4 tournament in Las Vegas by beating Peccole 13-1, Summerlin South 21-1, Spring Valley 10-0, Las Vegas Western 28-0 and Cheyenne 7-3. They would continue their undeafeated stand in the State Tournament beating Reno National 11-0 and Paseo Verde 11-1.

They now head to the Little League Western Regional Tournament taking place at Al Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino, CA August 1st through the 9th. If they win that tournament, which they believe they have the team to do it, they will then be the first team from Nevada to go to South Williamsport, PA for the Little league World Series.

The teams Head Coach, Ashton Cave, had this to say about his team:

"Our 7-3 win against Paseo Verde for the Nevada State Championship, was a conformation to Mountain Ridge 12 Major AllStars, that despite any adversity along the road to Williamsport, we will find a way to win.

Our team Motto is: Always Earned, Never Given.

We realize that the road to Williamsport for a Nevada team has never been obtained in the past. But these young men carry a humble swagger. They are very talented and are always eager to listen and learn more during every practice or game.

They have a calm confidence, and realize that hard work beats talent. We are reminding these young men daily that they have been working very hard and that they are very talented.

This is a very strategic combination. If this team plays to the level of talent they obtain, western regionals will be a stepping stone for the state of Nevada 12 Major AllStars 2014. We will do what we do best, which is play the game of baseball 1 pitch at a time, and embrace each moment along the way."

Their first game is on August 1st at 7pm where they will take on the Utah State Champion, Dixie, from St. George, UT. After that, they will face Chandler National North (Arizona) on Sunday August 3rd at 11am, Pacifica American (Northern California) August 5th at 11am and Southern California on August 6th at 8:30am.

The Top 4 teams will make the semi-finals on August 8th with the Title Game being played on Saturday August 9th.

All games will be televised Live on ESPN3.

Nevada's Longing for the Little League World Series

No Nevada team has ever made it to the Little League World Series. Three different teams have made it to within a game of making the series but each would end up falling just short in the West Region championship game.

Green Valley Little League would fall just short in 1983 and then again in 2001. In 1983 the squad would fall in extra innings to Sacramento Pacific Little League (Northern California) and the 2001 team dropped a championship game meeting with Oceanside American Little League (Southern California).

Paseo Verde Little League advanced to the West Region final in 2008 but lost 4-3 to Hawaii's Waipio Little League.

The team is looking for anyone willing to sponsor the team to help pay for the week long trip. All information is on the flyer posted with this article. The team leaves next Wednesday (July 30th) to go represent the entire state of Nevada in this tournament. If anyone is able and willing to help out, they can contact Nicole Cave at 702-767-5445.
